Here is Feed The Wolf, graphite and colored pencil on paper for the Corey Helford Gallery "Your Penciled Masses" group show showing now through October 24th in Culver City! This piece is a story about a strange woman's love for a hungry lone wolf in the wild. The wolf has just lost his love and has no more life to live now that she's gone. This drawing was inspired by the Halloween season that I love so so much. I find myself wanting everything wolf at the moment. This was really fun to work on and was (is) such a great show! All the pieces are brilliant!! If you are on Instagram, you can see a video of this piece being made, sadly, Blogger doesn't have video format that seems to work for me :( BRANDI MILNEhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07513912545152332626noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5973188351351457091.post-16323756384767777142015-10-09T09:15:00.001-07:002015-10-09T09:29:22.646-07:00Once Upon A Time, Life Was Sweeter Than We Knew<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_9InTOyyi9A/VhflFww7EhI/AAAAAAAAG9o/VhfwnlmCccc/s1600/Once%2BUpon%2BA%2BTime.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_9InTOyyi9A/VhflFww7EhI/AAAAAAAAG9o/VhfwnlmCccc/s800/Once%2BUpon%2BA%2BTime.jpg" /></a></div>
Here is my painting Once Upon A Time, Life Was Sweeter Than We Knew (acrylic on wood) for Corey Helford Gallery's group show back in July! This is a story about being the author of your own life and choosing to enjoy the wonderful moments that life presents to you. I'm really loving reds and whites at the moment, I've kind of been obsessed! I can't stop painting cherries and all I want is for everything to be translucent! When I was little, I was certainly obsessed with candy (as maybe lots of little kids might be!) and I used to get these Jolly Rancher sticks that were flat and small and had a translucency that I can't get out of my head. Specifically the watermelon flavor - that particular color of pink is what inspired this little lamb's feather in her hat and her top...and the rainbow and the cherries and the cherry syrup she's sitting in. Obsessed.

(I'm a little slow now on the blog updates, forgive me!)
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-peMtcbMstyo/Vfb0J8_CeyI/AAAAAAAAG8w/j5AkIG4hyEM/s1600/IMG_2097.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-peMtcbMstyo/Vfb0J8_CeyI/AAAAAAAAG8w/j5AkIG4hyEM/s800/IMG_2097.JPG" /></a></div> At first I was thinking of doing ice cream with the snowmen - the ad being for Meadow Gold Ice Cream. Here's that sketch from my sketchbook. But the show was about product DISPLACEMENT rather than product placement - Ice cream/snowmen, that makes too much sense. I took a more sinister approach borrowing "milk of the poppy" from HBO's Game of Thrones which is a medical drink, used as both a painkiller and an anesthetic. Higher doses will induce unconsciousness (as you will not on the bottom of the bottle). In the show it is commonly used for those poor souls who have suffered severe injuries. (thank you Wikipedia) The idea is (one that is common in my work) the naivety of the snowmen dunking their cookies in the "milk" and leaving their fate to the imagination. I had so much fun with these little snowmen that I soon became obsessed painting them, studying them. Is it lame if from here on out I only paint snowmen and cherries? I can't stop.

This is my newest piece for a private collection titled "Hello Moon!" - graphite and colored pencil on paper. The collector commissioned the piece for her 2 year old daughter's birthday, and sketching ideas for the drawing got me remembering having been little myself and spending hours studying my favorite illustrations in the many thrifted (children's) books I had growing up. To think of having some influence on that child's imagination and how she identifies with the world around her is such a huge gift to be afforded, and I wanted to shoot for the stars - or literally the moon in this case. In the piece the lamb is looking up at the moon daydreaming of a life that's larger than life as she knows it. She is having tea with her friends, hugging and reading books because what better way to spend your day :)
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5QswNWznaS0/VRREJopiQaI/AAAAAAAAG70/flL2SamOpqg/s1600/IMG_1789.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5QswNWznaS0/VRREJopiQaI/AAAAAAAAG70/flL2SamOpqg/s800/IMG_1789.JPG" /></a></div>
These boots are amazing and I had to put them in :)
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Or0CgQlWANs/VRQ5ngKvtBI/AAAAAAAAG7k/iUd_mxDjbKc/s1600/Dance%2BMe%2BTo%2BThe%2BEnd.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Or0CgQlWANs/VRQ5ngKvtBI/AAAAAAAAG7k/iUd_mxDjbKc/s800/Dance%2BMe%2BTo%2BThe%2BEnd.jpg" /></a></div>
And a new drawing titled "Dance Me To The End" - graphite on paper. I did this drawing for myself - a luxury I FORCED myself to carve out time to do. It was inspired by one of my latest (and favorite) paintings I created at the end of last year titled "Your Song" (I wrote about it <a href="http://brandimilne.blogspot.com/2014/11/elton-john-hello-kitty.html">HERE</a>) which was inspired by Elton John's music. The drawing is about the music of your life - the inspirations and loves from which you pull and ultimately what comes out of you as a result of what goes in. And I love a great grey day, there's something so reflective in the quiet of the cold. Grey days were some of the best days growing up and now they're so few and far between in Southern California :(

Here I am once again at the place right before beginning a new body of work. I have a solo show lined up with the Corey Helford Gallery but have not chosen a date. Being dead line free for the first time in my professional career feels a little weird - yet freeing.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-m4kYJa4pfvo/VQrrQyNK_qI/AAAAAAAAG64/9yKVVrTQeRQ/s1600/IMG_1286.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-m4kYJa4pfvo/VQrrQyNK_qI/AAAAAAAAG64/9yKVVrTQeRQ/s800/IMG_1286.JPG" /></a></div>
The idea of allowing myself TIME is a strange one. Time to research, time to explore, time to enjoy, time to relax and NOT jump back onto the treadmill of constant creating? It's new. And I'm excited to see what comes of it.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5m40BSV-RM0/VQrrSkx4rLI/AAAAAAAAG7A/r5ZU77OqAXw/s1600/IMG_9992.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5m40BSV-RM0/VQrrSkx4rLI/AAAAAAAAG7A/r5ZU77OqAXw/s800/IMG_9992.JPG" /></a></div>
So sketching daily, writing, studying, exploring, living, breathing and simply FEELING is what I'm going to be doing...that's exploration in itself.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tWUty7V0pFw/VQrrWkFvOsI/AAAAAAAAG7I/pcX6XpxDwEQ/s1600/IMG_0424.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tWUty7V0pFw/VQrrWkFvOsI/AAAAAAAAG7I/pcX6XpxDwEQ/s800/IMG_0424.JPG" /></a></div>

My new painting "How Again To Begin" (acrylic on wood) will be on exhibition this Saturday (Jan. 24th) at the <a href="http://www.coreyhelfordgallery.com/">Corey Helford Gallery Circa</a> in Culver City as part of their "Freaks & Americana: An Exploration of Big Top Culture" group show!!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YR-sm5JlG4A/VL6F_ymdDiI/AAAAAAAAG4A/VDfiPcT19CE/s1600/IMG_8452.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YR-sm5JlG4A/VL6F_ymdDiI/AAAAAAAAG4A/VDfiPcT19CE/s800/IMG_8452.JPG" /></a></div>
This painting was so fun to work on as I have always been inspired by American circus-type imagery. It's escapism at it's best - chaos & candies & clowns!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tb61RuEskIo/VL6F-Mhe_WI/AAAAAAAAG34/SZ3JweNnRi8/s1600/IMG_9242.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tb61RuEskIo/VL6F-Mhe_WI/AAAAAAAAG34/SZ3JweNnRi8/s800/IMG_9242.JPG" /></a></div>
The story hidden inside this painting is very personal, each character represents someone in my life. But the concept is about starting new - going back to the basics and rebuilding our structure. A lovely little thing about being human is that there is always room for improvement :)

You know how some years stand out in your life more than others? I'm gonna say 2014 is going down in history for me. She was a tough one, but a good one, and I'll never forget her. My work comes from what's inside my heart. The inside of my heart isn't always happy - in fact, I have some very very sad corners in there most of the time. I love painting & drawing & creating because it gives me a voice to communicate those feelings - whatever they may be.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LRC66GGPaxw/VHT_bEofu5I/AAAAAAAAGuQ/drMSusALeKs/s1600/SweetThing29mb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LRC66GGPaxw/VHT_bEofu5I/AAAAAAAAGuQ/drMSusALeKs/s800/SweetThing29mb.jpg" /></a></div>
This is a very merry piece I had the pleasure to paint titled "Sweet Thing" (acrylic on wood). I kept my heart happy by keeping lot's of disco in my ears :) And it's hard to be sad while painting bunnies, candies and teeth!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IS72LieQklI/VHT_lVSEXMI/AAAAAAAAGuY/i3Zrm_6-2TM/s1600/boop607.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IS72LieQklI/VHT_lVSEXMI/AAAAAAAAGuY/i3Zrm_6-2TM/s800/boop607.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aRSSWXYm_Wg/VHT_rcqtu8I/AAAAAAAAGug/hpr_SAcjVEc/s1600/Holiday%2BTakes%2BA%2BHoliday608.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aRSSWXYm_Wg/VHT_rcqtu8I/AAAAAAAAGug/hpr_SAcjVEc/s800/Holiday%2BTakes%2BA%2BHoliday608.jpg" /></a></div>
And another merry fellow in "Holiday Takes A Holiday" (acrylic on wood). Happy as can be painting this little guy.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-clmCHf_Nf3g/VHT_3QEWTKI/AAAAAAAAGuo/qJZTa8M-9ns/s1600/IMG_3672.mov" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-clmCHf_Nf3g/VHT_3QEWTKI/AAAAAAAAGuo/qJZTa8M-9ns/s800/IMG_3672.mov" /></a></div>
Letting my heart be merry is the direction I'm heading in for now. I'd like to explore that place and allow my work to be fully effected by it. I have a big show in less than 2 years that I haven't even begun conceptualizing yet, but I know I'm heading this way :) BRANDI MILNEhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07513912545152332626noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5973188351351457091.post-40687087849997979132014-11-14T09:59:00.000-08:002014-11-14T09:59:31.323-08:00Elton John & Hello Kitty<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="//2.bp.blogspot.com/-S6ByBirAeTc/VGVEIWoR0VI/AAAAAAAAGsE/kCPxEMJ5S7Q/s1600/Eltonsmall.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="//2.bp.blogspot.com/-S6ByBirAeTc/VGVEIWoR0VI/AAAAAAAAGsE/kCPxEMJ5S7Q/s800/Eltonsmall.jpg" /></a></div>
Here is my Elton John tribute painting titled "Your Song" (acrylic on wood) that I did for the <a href="http://www.soundandvisionartshow.com/">Sound & Vision</a> group show in October. October was a CRAZZY busy month for me, and I haven't had a chance to post until now :) Karl Drehsen curated the show and invited me (along with an amazing handful of other artists) to chose one musician that had recorded at Sound City Studios that has inspired me. The list is certainly impressive as Sound City had such a unique spot in time to have housed so many amazing musicians - but I chose Elton because his music has been in my head since I was very young and has always made me FEEL. I can remember hearing Someone Saved My Life Tonight (one of my top 5 favs of EJ's) one day as our house was in transition because my mom was having purple carpeting installed in her and my dad's bedroom. My siblings and I were stoked because all their furniture from their room was out in the livingroom, which created the most amazing furniture jungle to play in. I must have been 4 or 5, and I remember the mood - the WORLD or happiness in my wee heart as that song wrapped around that particular moment. Elton John's music is special. And I'm thankful for it. So this, my attempt to illustrate the feeling of his music in my veins.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="//2.bp.blogspot.com/-1lQKHsG4fM8/VGVFEkQ5INI/AAAAAAAAGsM/4fK4qDeWIBs/s1600/IMG_5468.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="//2.bp.blogspot.com/-1lQKHsG4fM8/VGVFEkQ5INI/AAAAAAAAGsM/4fK4qDeWIBs/s800/IMG_5468.JPG" /></a></div> And here's a bit of nerd alert in the restroom of Sound City at Sound & Vision's opening night. The glasses are the bee's sneeze, never you mind the toilet and it's accessories behind me :)
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P8zfttzki5Q/VGZBV7hlQfI/AAAAAAAAGtU/J3FCvPxLQPs/s1600/IMG_2934.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P8zfttzki5Q/VGZBV7hlQfI/AAAAAAAAGtU/J3FCvPxLQPs/s800/IMG_2934.JPG" /></a></div> The initial laying in of color/shadow is where I get to be free and wild and messy and provides the ground, feel and inspired strokes of the painting :)
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dRAIg8TODgY/VGZBXuHh_6I/AAAAAAAAGtc/9cEnIcA3LMY/s1600/IMG_2970.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dRAIg8TODgY/VGZBXuHh_6I/AAAAAAAAGtc/9cEnIcA3LMY/s800/IMG_2970.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tEWHmItHlpA/VGZBaf_-HPI/AAAAAAAAGtk/xzGgolpiIDo/s1600/IMG_4605.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tEWHmItHlpA/VGZBaf_-HPI/AAAAAAAAGtk/xzGgolpiIDo/s800/IMG_4605.jpg" /></a></div> Oddly, I didn't listen to any Elton John music as I painted this piece - instead, it was all disco, all the time..
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="//1.bp.blogspot.com/-MwnP3hgdjN4/VGVFvHnsQ2I/AAAAAAAAGsk/tt4KbHDcyhM/s1600/IMG_5182.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="//1.bp.blogspot.com/-MwnP3hgdjN4/VGVFvHnsQ2I/AAAAAAAAGsk/tt4KbHDcyhM/s800/IMG_5182.JPG" /></a></div>
And Hello Kitty happened in October as well! To celebrate The Kitty's 40 years of life on earth, Jamie Rivadeneira from LA's cutest shop <a href="http://www.japanla.com/browse.php">Japan LA</a> curated the Hello Kitty Art Show at the Japanese American National Museum in Downtown LA and invited me to participate - which of course I jumped at the chance to use Hello Kitty as my subject! Here is my painting "Eat Cakes You Kitty" (acrylic on wood) (Jamie and I had the opportunity to work together in 2011 at Sanrio's 50th Birthday where My Melody was the muse for my painting Strawberry Sky - see image below) This year was (is) extraextra special because the show was held at the museum and coincided with the first Hello Kitty Con at MOCA just down the street. Hello Kitty had an excellent 40th birthday :) The art show will be on tour for the next three years!!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gqq2tVNZSFA/VGY1FuzMRGI/AAAAAAAAGs0/jDGeu9f4sSw/s1600/strbrrysky.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gqq2tVNZSFA/VGY1FuzMRGI/AAAAAAAAGs0/jDGeu9f4sSw/s800/strbrrysky.jpg" /></a></div> Strawberry Sky 2011

(Self Portrait is more appropriate and artful a description.) Anyway, I see nothing wrong with documenting a time and place in this fashion. I find that it's never a bad thing to face yourself in the mirror, accept what you see, and furthermore, capture that moment for yourself in healthy self acceptance. Hello Kitty gifted the attendees at the private opening reception October 10th with a bag of goodies, among them were these amazing spectacles that I whipped out and threw on my face for this here self portrait. Nerd alert yes, and again never mind the lovely landscape setting behind me in the Canter's restroom. My rule is if you have the restroom to yourself, you have to take your photo.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PGNbnkqBuwA/VGZAjxoQMXI/AAAAAAAAGtE/d1obqhWAZQk/s1600/IMG_1182.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PGNbnkqBuwA/VGZAjxoQMXI/AAAAAAAAGtE/d1obqhWAZQk/s800/IMG_1182.jpg" /></a></div>
My painting as it had been in the process... ultimately the dark ground was very severe and my husband encouraged me to let myself be light :)

Corey Helford Gallery group show that opens Saturday, August 30 in Culver City!! All the pieces in the show will be measured 12"x12" in order to offer great (smaller) art from wonderful artists without breaking banks. Check out the list of names below, it's good!!

June 14th was opening night of my latest solo exhibition "Here Inside My Broken Heart". After nearly two years of working on the show, it was certainly nice to have a wonderful {dizzying} reception and see such lovely faces. Thank you to each and every one of you that made it out to the show opening night as well as through the month. I'm finally getting around to sharing the photos as I am OCD about getting names right also being lazy!! I did a video interview at my Pop Up show space with Bobby Hundreds the other day. Being on the shyer side, a video interview is a rarity for me, but I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out! We talked about some of the ideas behind the work and a bit of what I was dealing with as I was creating the body of work for Here Inside My Broken Heart. See the interview <a href="http://thehundreds.com/hereinsidemybrokenheart/">HERE</a>!! Big huge thank you to Bobby and Zack ~ you're the coolest!

A while back I had a visit in my studio with Bobby Kim. You may know him as <a href="http://thehundreds.com/">Bobby Hundreds</a>, as in co-founder of <a href="http://thehundreds.com/shop/">The Hundreds</a>. I was in the final throes of painting for my show when he was scheduled to come over - I had 5 small paintings to go that I hadn't even started yet, 3 large to medium pieces that needed finishing and only a few short weeks til my deadline. I wasn't particularly prepared to be interviewed about my work for my upcoming show - in fact I see it a bit like a day that you've got all kinds of dirty dishes in the sink, piles of bills and junk mail strewn across every table top, cats barfing on every counter, dogs crying, babies barking, hill billies burping, and laundry piled up past the ceiling. I knew he was coming to see my work and ask a few questions - the house was clean but my head felt like chaos.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QkpIc0Hy1_I/U5-DwLwOleI/AAAAAAAAGV4/_XzG1cwMVJ8/s1600/IMG_7266.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QkpIc0Hy1_I/U5-DwLwOleI/AAAAAAAAGV4/_XzG1cwMVJ8/s800/IMG_7266.JPG" /></a></div>
As soon as Bobby walked in, he was quietly gathering information. He was gone an hour later (busy bee that he is) but somewhere in that hour he and I had become friends forever. Reading what he wrote about our exchange that had been so brief says a lot about him and his natural ability to make such honest connections to people in this world - and that's exactly what he does. I'm happy to know such a kind, intelligent, thoughtful, insightful, respectful, (the list can go on) hard working human being. Bobby Kim is a righteous dude. Here's what he wrote:

On the Eve of my show "Here Inside My Broken Heart", there are only a few last minute things that need my attention regarding the show. After nearly 2 years of working on the paintings for the exhibit, it's an odd feeling being finished with my end of the story - and "sitting back" as the wonderful staff at my gallery (<a href="http://www.coreyhelfordgallery.com/">COREY HELFORD GALLERY</a>) take it from here. {The space is big and beautiful, address: 10000 Culver Blvd, Culver City CA 90232 FREE PARKING at City Hall 9770 Culver Blvd}
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--2T6Oxcj8Uw/U5txpIOSQ7I/AAAAAAAAGU8/HuAp5zwQ7Bc/s1600/IMG_9402.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--2T6Oxcj8Uw/U5txpIOSQ7I/AAAAAAAAGU8/HuAp5zwQ7Bc/s800/IMG_9402.jpg" /></a></div>
I finished the works 2 weeks ahead of time so that we can offer a show catalog at the opening (AND I LOVE IT!!) which in turn gave me two weeks for readying (with gallery space details, framing, prints, press - as well as emotions that deserve attention) at a pretty leisure, nice pace. This little margin before a big show has in past years been filled to the brim with worry, stress, daily freak-outs, nightly night terrors and nightmares. There hasn't been any such thing. {Catalog includes images of all 13 new paintings on exhibit, limited edition of only 100pcs}
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9xeOmM2xB1c/U5t3R9hGWgI/AAAAAAAAGVM/ZpfBcu1mj2Y/s1600/IMG_9563.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9xeOmM2xB1c/U5t3R9hGWgI/AAAAAAAAGVM/ZpfBcu1mj2Y/s800/IMG_9563.JPG" /></a></div>
I am truly grateful for all the love and support and encouragement and HARD WORK I've been receiving over the last few weeks (and few months). I feel very loved and supported which means a great deal to me. {"Broken" in his backstage bubble wrap from the framers, waiting to be hung}

It was about a year ago when I was asked to do an extensive interview with <a href="http://www.lowbrowliterati.com/Lowbrow_Literati/Lowbrow_Literati/Entries/2014/6/2_Brandi_Milne_1__The_Value_of_Sadness_%28NASDQ__SADN%29.html">LOWBROW LITERATI
</a> - an art fan and collector that I had known since 2008. I'd done interviews before this - have had numerous features in magazines and articles online throughout the 10 years I've been working as a professional artist. While those interviews and articles have covered my artwork and inspirations pretty well, I was humbled by the lowbrow Literati's (Fritz Costa) interest in digging through and documenting the events and what not that had lead up to my career in art and gallery exhibitions. (<i>Photo by the lovely and talented <a href="http://www.victorialaraphotography.com/">VICTORIA LARA</a></i>)
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FpWCR5eeqzY/U5dDoPGzsNI/AAAAAAAAGTQ/0lrPnd4yQ4Q/s1600/IMG_3409.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FpWCR5eeqzY/U5dDoPGzsNI/AAAAAAAAGTQ/0lrPnd4yQ4Q/s800/IMG_3409.jpg" /></a></div>
And so I met up with Fritz at a coffee shop near me, where we talked and talked for hours as he recorded the conversation and drew out a timeline there at our table. And here now a year later, a <a href="http://www.lowbrowliterati.com/Lowbrow_Literati/Lowbrow_Literati/Lowbrow_Literati.html">LOWBROW LITERATI</a> is upon us! Parts 1-3 have been posted, the other 2 parts will unfold by the end of the week!
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SbRf3U6J1Lc/U5c_8lsJ1eI/AAAAAAAAGTE/iXuLQKidOzk/s1600/BRandi+Milne_LowBrowLitterati_2014_612.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SbRf3U6J1Lc/U5c_8lsJ1eI/AAAAAAAAGTE/iXuLQKidOzk/s800/BRandi+Milne_LowBrowLitterati_2014_612.JPG" /></a></div>
Just want to thank you Fritz for taking the time and making the effort (on your own time) to document the why's and how's of the artists you admire. I look forward to many more interviews with you and so many brilliantly creative people!!

Special location will be announced soon - you can take matters in your own hands and see the advanced preview of the show by contacting the <a href="http://http://www.coreyhelfordgallery.com/">COREY HELFORD GALLERY</a> now.

I can't tell you how excited I am for the show, I've been working on it for nearly 2 years now. And as I've mentioned recently here, I've been through some gnarly challenges emotionally which naturally spilled out in the new paintings for the show. As my work load lessens as show opening nears, I can start to share the paintings and what went into them here on the blog. Until then, work work work!! I hope all is well out there!! Time is FLYING by!! It's now Spring!! And to celebrate I'm having a sale on select items in my <a href="http://www.brandimilne.com/Site%202010/INFO/brandimilne.com.htm">SHOP</a>!! Have a look-see!!
In other news, I've been up to my ears in paint for my upcoming solo show (June 14th) with <a href="http://www.coreyhelfordgallery.com/">COREY HELFORD GALLERY</a> and I've been through some stuff - personal stuff - as of late. I'm always up for a challenge, and I've been challenged. But I'm grateful for every moment, I've learned more about myself in the last 6 months than maybe in all my years. Whew!! I can surely say that it is reflected in my recent work, which I am most proud of. I hope all y'all are well and if facing challenges of your own, I hope to see you better for it on the other side. Now that Christmastime is in full swing, I'm happily gathering inspired bits wherever I can find em. This time of year is most bestest for painting, although the distractions come at me from every angle ~ as I'm sure is the case with most people. Still, the magic is in the air and I intend to take full advantage of it where I can...

I've just finished my biggest painting for my next show {May 2014 at Corey Helford Gallery} and although it put up quite the fight in areas I didn't see coming, and it took me double the amount of time I intended, I'm pretty flippin stoked on it - beyond what I dreamed initially. It will set the tone for the entire show, including the 4 paintings I had started before it. I have a long road ahead of me in completing what paintings haven't even occured to me yet, I know each one will slap me across the face repeatedly - I'll cry and I'll stomp around the room like a 7 year old as goes the drill. But I'm hoping to wrestle each one down in the end and the outcome far more victorious than if they all lay down and make my life easy.

I'm so excited it's finally arrived and I'm able to spread the word, Frohlich has been in the making for quite some time (as books of this nature go). I've discussed the process in a few posts a while back (<a href="http://brandimilne.blogspot.com/2013/09/come-frohlich-with-me_7.html">Here</a>, <a href="http://brandimilne.blogspot.com/2013/06/hip-hip.html">Here</a>, & <a href="http://brandimilne.blogspot.com/2013/01/getting-ready-to-frolich.html">Here</a>) and I even promised the book's availability in October (sorry!), and now I can just shut up and deliver.

If you follow me on IG and Twitter (where I am @brandimilne) you've already heard the news (thank you for all the early orders!), sadly, my blogging skills have experienced a slip as of late. I've quite literally only been focused on painting for my next show (at Corey Helford Gallery) - finishing up the largest painting which will be the show title piece (so very excited). As always, I thank each of you for your interest and support, for even coming here to read my silly words. When I was growing up, Halloween and Christmas were a big deal in our house. My mom would decorate the kitchen for Halloween in September, and usually that was accompanied with Christmas music from the 8Track stereo. I cant explain the crazy excitement and jubilation that was pulsing through the house at those moments as a kid. The imagery of those old cardboard velvety Halloween decorations were monumental in my skull - and still to this day. I hope I can touch on many of your nostalgic memories with these two prints, in even the smallest way. Happy October!! xoxoxoxoxox!!BRANDI MILNEhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07513912545152332626noreply@blogger.com0
