Hello Monday!
Here is Alice In Wonderland by Mary Blair. I got this at Half.com, and was super excited when it came in the mail yesterday!! I got the Cinderella book for my sister (she loves C) and it's just as wonderful.
Inside!
And, this. Rudolf The Red Nosed Reindeer! This was a shocking find at the used bookstore, as they didn't really have anything good in the children's books. This is quite a find, I love the illustrations inside:
It's weird, it says it was written for Montgomery Ward, I don't know what that means. Maybe like a Christmas promotion? A few years ago, J. Otto Seibold did a promotion for Nordstrom's Christmas, and I was in Heaven.
Here, more.
Alice In Wonderland Pop Up by J. Otto Seibold arrived in the mail the other day! You should see this thing!
Yikes, it's so good.
One Bailey's Tea Cup/Creamer from the Friff Store, $1.99
Magnetic wooden letters from Michaels. So Good...
My first Ugly Folk Tales; "Mermaidboy And The Tuna" is slowly coming together.
And this crown from Michaels.
I went to the "Friff Store" Friday with a silly little boy - we were looking for inspiration for the summer events we have planned. We came away with some out-of-sight finds, we think, and some other pieces from Michaels and Half.com. I don't know what I would do without these outlets, these junk stores. They're priceless in this world.
And something disgusting happened the other day when we were taking a walk around the neighborhood. My husband and I were walking under a big ol pine tree, when we heard something weird fall from it RIGHT as we stepped out from under it. We look back, and this huge hawk swoops down and flies up to the roof across the street. He sits there giving us the stink-eye, and as we look down at what almost landed on my head, we see a flippin head. A flippin rat's head!!! Bloody and ripped off!! What the hell???? The sound it made when it hit the street was horrible, and thinking that that might have hit me on the head, I would've freaked!!! And probably been knocked a good one, knowing how heavy it sounded!! Pretty gross? Yes, pretty gross. The hawk came back and picked it up after we walked away, and he and his lady friend flew away with their scrumptious dinner.
Super disgusting. Has anyone ever been knocked out by a rat's head? That's my question for today.

Those are some really cool inspiration sources.
Not a rat but... A friend of my plays golf. One day she hits the ball and it disappears in a tree. A few seconds later a pigeon felt down!!! Really!
Maybe the hawk read your post about Travis Lampe's work and thought you liked rats heads. Silly hawk!
I am glad you could find any vintage children books at all what with the HORRIBLE CPSIA ban:

Hopefully there are more shops that have more sense than to toss those wonderful older books.
Oh, I don't blame you for being creeped out. Gross! I'm very happy to hear that it wasn't actually dropped ON your head though.
It's not quite a rat, but my mother in law's cockatiel disappeared thanks to a hawk. She parked her car under the tree where they were nesting and woke up the next day to find a similar scene with her cockatiel's head, only it was mooshed down her windscreen.
Lovely story! Not sure why I felt compelled to write it... I hope your new books are filled with much happier pictures!! Have fun :)
oooh, all those books look absolutely gorgeous! I love Alice in Wonderland... well, actually I love all children stories :) I'm such a big kid.
These stories are horrible! Poor birds! At least mine was a rat...or at least I think it was...
Wow, such lovely book finds!! :) I love Rudolf!! :) Thanks so much for your sweet comment over at my blog, how kind of you!
And.....what a freaky hawk-rat tale......eeep! Horror of horrors!!
I love michaels, and I'm especially liking that crown you picked up!
I like mice and little creatures like that but sometimes my cats bring them in and haven't really done anything to them so theres just a big fat full-bodied rat laying on the kitchen floor or something. I have to pretend like its a prop in a movie or something just in order to pick it up & throw it away outside. ewww- hello swiffer & mr clean & disenfectant time!
Love Alice in wonderland and kids books brings back memories. Great blog.
Oh my goodness, YES
These are fantastic :D
I bought a small painting from J. Otto Seibold last year - he's amazing

Oh, and I get donut guilt too which means that I literally haven't touched one for about 15 years....I wish I had biscuit guilt :)
