How Can I Shine Without You?

Because this image came out as an ad the other day, I can finally start talking about the individual paintings that will be making up my next show. This painting titled How Can I Shine Without You? was the very first painting I began working on waaaay back in June of last year. I wanted to start big (the piece measures 36"x48") to begin the story of Before I Hide Away.
In my life, I have had two people who have majorly influenced me personally, who have both gently guided me through life ~ in total opposite ways than one another (and sometimes not gentle at all). Without these two people, I could not have come to the place I am at this very moment. The first person I'm speaking of is my mom who raised me in a somewhat odd manner, who provided me with a naive, whimsical outlook on life. The second person who has guided me in an entirely different direction in life (in the most perfect way) and who has pushed me past the curtain, out into the spotlight has been my husband. This painting is my interpretation of what their support has afforded me. I will say this though, trying to put words to all the thoughts and emotions that go into a painting is futile. The words will only ever barely scratch the surface.
Having said that, I do not take for granted the support I have been given by the lovely loving people in my life. I've been blessed to be able to surround myself with good solid wonderful family and friends and without them my life would be empty.

Hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh~~~~~~
I can finally somewhat breathe. I've finished all the paintings for my show (August 11th, Corey Helford Gallery), now for all the press, frames, and final gallery touches which is the final storm leading up to opening night! I'm exhausted and soo happy and so nervous and excited and crazy and I CAN NOT WAIT for the show. See you there!!!

This Girl's Too Young To Be Singin The Blues

Paint, paint, paint, I'm painting my days away...
Outside I hear people getting in their cars and driving places, people talking and laughing, sometimes crying. I hear people yelling and walking and skating and cutting down trees. Inside I hear my music and my tv and my lonely footsteps. I'm not complaining, I love what's happening inside.
But hello out there, I'm crazy in here. :)

Before I Hide Away

There's one month left before my show Before I Hide Away opens August 11th, and I'm feelin mighty goooood! Here's the show card featuring my new painting "She Wears The Trees In Her Hair And The Clouds In Her Eyes" which will be part of the show. Opening night is August 11th at the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City.
I've finished all the large paintings and now have just a few tidbits to do on two more small pieces and then I'M FINISHED (with the paintings). I've been working on this show since June '11 ~ it feels like an eternity (in the bestest way!) and now that it's all winding down and I see the end in sight, I'm getting a little sad...
This happens each time I'm in the final stages of a large body of work that will be swept away to tidy up at the framers, get displayed on the gallery walls and (hopefully) find new homes with loving collectors. It feels almost like giving up your baby (but probably not like that at all) but it's all part of the process. I love the whole process (even the parts I hate), I'm so very blessed to be able to do what I do.
